Why “Drink More Water” is Bad Advice

You hear it all the time: Drink more water.

But here’s the thing—that advice, on its own, is not helpful. In fact, it might be doing more harm than good.

Most of the water we drink today is stripped of minerals—and when you drink a ton of plain, demineralized water (like filtered or reverse osmosis—it’s not that those methods are bad, they just take out the good along with the bad), it can actually flush essential nutrients out of your body.

Too much plain water = electrolyte imbalance, stress on the kidneys, and even thyroid suppression.

What your body really wants? Mineral-rich water that your cells can actually absorb and use.

Our Basic Water Protocol

We keep it simple—and consistent.

Goal

80 oz/day of mineralized water

  • Add a pinch of salt (we love Jacobsen’s Salt for its low lead levels)
  • Add a few drops of Trace Minerals
  • Mix into every glass, every day

We’re not sponsored—just obsessed. After all our testing and research, these are the products we keep coming back to again and again.

Tips to Actually Hit 80oz

  • Drink from a quart-size mason jar at home so you can see your water and track it
  • Set a timer every 15 minutes to remind yourself to sip
  • Add flavor if needed—lemon, cucumber, watermelon, mint, etc.

Do hydration check-ins:

1–2 hrs after waking
Lunchtime
Afternoon
Dinnertime

Hit 20–30 oz at each of those checkpoints and you’re golden.

This may seem basic—but it’s foundational.

When we work with private clients, we don’t even start the deeper work until they’re consistently hitting their water goals. That’s how crucial proper hydration is to detox, energy, and overall healing.

Start here. Start now. Salt your damn water.
