A Walk Without a Purpose

Doing less, being more

Bare feet walking slowly through soft sunlit grass on a forest path

You know that thing that happens when you board a fast-moving train and it gets going, and everything outside the window goes from crisp, clear detail to a colorful blur?

That’s today’s metaphor for life.

Sometimes we get going so fast that we miss the crisp, clear, beautiful details around us.

So this week, we’re continuing our exploration of doing less and being more with a simple Walking Meditation.

A true “walk without a purpose,” so that we can see more. So that we can slow down long enough to actually be in touch with the vibrancy, beauty, and intimacy of living life on Earth.

Get ready for this one, y’all.

It is one of the most powerful, life-changing, and simple things you can do to slow life down, settle your nervous system, and experience the world in a completely different way. Listen to the guided practice here.

The Key: Walk Slowly

The key to this meditation is to walk reeeallllyy slowwwwww. Like, slower than feels comfortable kind of slow.

And notice what happens.

Your nervous system might spike at first. There might be anxiety around walking so slowly. You might feel a strong desire to speed up.

This is totally normal!

Breathe deeply and settle into the experience. Give it a little time.

And then notice what becomes visible when you’re no longer moving past it so quickly.
